Koponen T, Cao T, Huttunen S, Juslén A, Peng C Piippo S, Rao P, Vána J, Virtanen V 2004 Bryophyte flora of Hunan Province, China. 3. Bryophytes from Taoyuandong and Yankou nature reserves and Badagongshan and Hupingshan national nature reserves, with additions to floras of Mangshan Nature Reserve and Wulingyuan Global cultural Heritage Area Acta Botanica Fennica 177: 1-47 Thirty-eight species of hepatics and 32 species of mosses are reported from Hunan Province of China, 32 hepatics and 13 mosses for the first time. A total of 285 species of mosses, 121 species of hepatics, and 4 species of hornworts are known from Hunan. The general frequency of species is estimated by using a 7-degree scale, and the same is done for the three site classes, into which the collecting localities are grouped. Most of the species in Hunan are rare or rather rare. The Bioclimatic Zonal System is employed when giving the distributions of bryophytes in Hunan. The floristic elements of E and SE Asian bryophytes are discussed, and the present set of taxa is divided between these flora elements. Cephalozia hamatiloba Steph. subsp. siamensis (N. Kitag.) Vána and Ptychomitrium gardneri Lesq. var. angustifolium (Nog.) T. Cao are new combinations.

Bryophytes from Mangshan Nature Reserve and Wulingyuan Global Cultural Heritage Area Annales Botanici Fennici 37: 11-39 http://www.sekj.org/PDF/anbf37/anbf37-011p.pdf This is the first paper of a series dealing with the bryoflora of Hunan Province in China. The vegetation, geology and geological history of Mangshan Nature Reserve and Wulingyuan Global Cultural Heritage Area are described and the collecting sites of the 1997 and 1999 bryological expeditions there are listed. Our 1000 specimens studied so far represent 55 genera and 105 species in 28 families. A total of 19 genera, 3 species of Anthocerotae, 20 species of hepatics, and 46 species of mosses are for the first time recorded for the Hunan Province. Diplophyllum serrulatum (Müll. Frib.) Steph., Lopholejeunea brunnea Horik., and Metzgeria albinea Spruce are for the first time recorded for mainland China. Atrichum subserratum (Hook.) Mitt. extends its range from the Himalayas to Central Chinese mountains, and Dicranodontium asperulum (Mitt.) Broth. has a disjunct occurrence in Hunan between the Himalayas and Taiwan.

Kubinská, A. (Editor) 1992 Slovakian liverworts Botanicky ústav SAV web site http://ibot.sav.sk/page/intro.htm 229 spp. Hornworts probably not included. This web page presents a checklist for plants in Slovakia with a section on liverworts. It does not contain the list; it says that it is available in print or CD form. From the text in the Bryophyte part: At time 903 species have been recognized, 229 of which are liverworts (Marchantiopsida and Anthocerotopsida) and 674 mosses (Bryopsida). In preparation the list we used several bibliographic sources, which included information on the distribution of bryophytes in the former Czecho-Slovakia (Kubinská & Janovicová 1996). Nomenclature follows Corley & al. (1981), and Corley & Crundwell (1991). Author abbreviations follow Brummit & Powell (1992) except for B. S.G (Bruch, Schimper, Gü mbel), which we prefer; Publication year is uncertain

Kürschner H, Parolly G 1999 The Epipterygio-Riccietum frostii ass. nov.: ecology and life strategies of an ephemeral bryophyte community in western Turkey Lindbergia 24: 84-92 Based on a phytosociological analysis, the terrestrial Epipterygio-Riccietum frostii, an ephemeral bryophyte community grouped within the Phascion cuspidati alliance (Barbuletalia/Barbuletea unguiculatae), is described for the first time from the Besparmak Daglari (Aegean Turkey). The community represents the characteristic open bryophyte cover of the acid sandy stream and cutbanks along the numerous brooks and rivers left exposed after the winter floods. It consists of a great number of marchantioids which mostly occur as isolated, but conspicuous rosettes. From a life strategy perspective, the community consists mainly of mat- and short turf-forming annual shuttle species, short-lived shuttle species and vegetative colonists. The survival of the community is presumably achieved by very large spores, spore tetrads and asexual propagules which are present in the diaspore bank, allowing fast re-establishment of the community over fairly large areas with the beginning of the next year
